Hand in Hand Congolese Community

Funeral Equipment Loan Agreement

Hand in Hand Congolese Community lends its funeral equipment free of charge to families holding a funeral (matanga) in South London. In return, the borrower returns every item complete, clean and in the same condition it was received.

  1. 1

    Free loan

The Community charges nothing for the equipment. It may not be hired out, lent on or used for any event other than the funeral named in the request.

  2. 2

    Length of loan

The borrower may keep the equipment until the funeral ceremonies end, however many days or weeks that takes. The borrower keeps the return date in the app up to date.

  3. 3

    Setting up and taking down

The borrower pays, directly and in full, the person or people who put up and take down the marquee. The Community is not responsible for that payment or for any agreement between the borrower and that person.

  4. 4

    Collection and return

The borrower arranges and pays for transport to collect and return the equipment, at the place and time agreed with an admin.

  5. 5

    Care of the equipment

The borrower keeps all items safe, dry and in the condition received. The marquee must be pegged and secured as the instructions say, and taken down in strong wind or storm warnings. No candles, cooking, barbecues, heaters or open flames inside or near the marquee. Nothing may be nailed, stapled, taped or cut into the marquee, carpet or chairs. Lights are used only as intended and kept away from water.

  6. 6

    Clean and dry on return

The marquee covers and carpet must be returned clean and completely dry. If they are wet when taken down, the borrower dries them before returning them.

  7. 7

    Checklist and photos

Every part is counted at collection and again at return, in front of both parties, and photos may be taken. The borrower confirms each checklist in the app with their full name.

  8. 8

    Missing or damaged parts

The borrower pays the cost of replacing any missing part, or of repairing or replacing any part damaged beyond normal wear, at the current price including delivery. Payment is due within 14 days of the return.

  9. 9

    Late return

If the equipment is not returned within 7 days of the expected return date and the borrower has not contacted the Community, the Community may treat it as lost and claim its full replacement cost.

  10. 10

    Safety and responsibility

The borrower is responsible for the safe use of the equipment while it is in their care. The Community is not liable for any injury, loss or damage to people or property arising from its use.

  11. 11

    Future loans

The Community may refuse future loans to anyone who has not respected this agreement.
